This assignment allowed us to learn more about photoshop and how a manipulate photo. We learned how to resize the canvas, copy and paste photos, change the hues and saturation of the photo. In this assignment I learned how to crop my photos in photoshop, and how to change the hues and saturation of the photos I am using in photoshop. This helped me figure out some of the tools in photoshop and I think it will be very helpful in the future.

Shutter Speed 1/5 1/15 1/40 1/100 In these photos, I was trying to use the shutter speed on my camera to capture the motion happening in the photo. These photos don't show the difference very well, but a larger range in the photos, and a higher quality camera would able to highlight the change. The last photo is freeze action, the bigger number in the denominator means that the shutter is faster, allowing less light in, meaning the image is darker, and there is no motion blur. The first photo shows motion blur, the lower number in the denominator means that the shutter is slower, allowing more light in and showing the motion blur of the photo. Aperture f 3.5 f 4.5 f 5.6 f 8 In these photos, I tried to use the aperture setting on my camera to show depth of field. These photos do not show the change in depth of field very well, but a higher quality camera could. In the first photo, the smaller f stop number means there a smaller depth of field, and a bigger opening. The smaller depth of field means the background should be blurred out more, though it is hard to see my in photo. In the last photo, the larger f stop means there is a larger depth of field, and a smaller opening. This means more of the background should be in focus, though all of my photos look like the background is in focus, a larger range on a better camera would show the difference.
ArchitectureFor my first photo assignment, I would like to try for architecture. I would like to capture the simple beauty of the buildings in downtown Ann Arbor. The above the photos capture unique aspects of simple elements of building, and yet hold beauty. I hope to just go around Ann Arbor this weekend and explore the buildings and capture some of its beauty in my photographs.
Composition ProjectThis project taught us new techniques to make our photos look pleasing. We started this project with a lecture about the elements, then we took our own notes on the elements, and lastly was the photo taking stage. Some of the composition elements were easy to capture, others were more difficult. But after a few days of photo-taking, all 11 elements have photos that fight into that category. BalanceA balanced photo has a feeling of symmetry while not actually being symmetrical. Most photos are naturally balanced, but these two photos I felt were the most balanced of all my photos. I felt this because they had two more elements in the photo, and though they did not exactly match, the elements balanced each other well. SpaceThe photo highlights the singularity of the safety cone. Though there is a lot of motion happening in the background with the brick wall, but the bright orange of the cone lets it stand out. Rule of ThirdsRule of thirds simple puts the subject of the photo onto on of the lines a third of the photo. I used the rule of thirds to highlight my subject as he played around our yard. Depth of FieldDepth of field positions a subject closer to the front of the photo while the background is further back. Usually this technique has the background slightly blurred, though the quality of my camera does not quite allow for that. This photo has the football close up in the frame, allowing the rolling hill in the background to be pushed back. TextureTexture is a part of a photo when there is a 3D element of the photo highlighted, usually through the use of light. These photo showed good texture in my opinion because to the thin lines showed a depth and continuity of the texture. Light isn't really being used to highlight the text, as it was a cloudy day, but the low amount of light still allows shadows to be cast further back. ColorColor is commonly used in photography to add a vibrancy and energy. This photo has a bright yellow sign as it's subject, and it adds a contrast to the duller background, adding a sense of vibrancy in the photo. LinesLines can add interest to a photo. Though the photos themselves are fairly bland, the lines of the bleachers add an element of uniformity and breaks up the photo adding some interest. FramingFraming is often used to literally frame the subject. This adds interest and highlights the subject even further. In this photo, the subject is taking photos of a dragonfly he had found, the framing of the window draws the viewers eyes to the subject. PatternPattern can be used to either break up or emphasize a element in the photo. I used the square patterns to break up the background. I also used rule of thirds to add more interest to the photos. SymmetrySymmetry can and interest or simple beauty to a photo, whether is is asymmetrical or not. This photo, though muted and dull, is beautiful because of how simple it is, but also the symmetry of the structure is breath-taking. PerspectivePerspective is a simple element that many photographers don't use out of laziness. Perspective of the element of having a photo taken at an angle that many don't normally see. This adds interest as the viewers thinks of the subject that may be common but are seeing it in a new perspective, and may find new beauty in the photo. ReflectionThis assignment challenged me to think about the way I take my photos. Every scene I saw, I thought about what technique I could use to highlight interest in the photo. Many photos I was surprised by how well they came out. Many photos did not turn out well, but many more turned out very well and surprised me as I didn't expect them to do well. I look forward to using these composition elements in my photography throughout the rest of the trimester, and possibly through out my life.
About MeMy name is Claire Krasko, I'm a senior at Saline High School. I'm also a captain on the Varsity Rowing team at the high school. I am 18 years old and have three younger brothers. Two of them are twins who are 3 years old. The other one is 14 and a freshman. I really like meeting new dogs, though I'm allergic, it doesn't stop me from petting the puppies. I have always enjoyed photography, and took darkroom photography 2 years ago. I am excited to experiment with its digital counterpart.
